The Montclair School District was an early supporter of the development of Detectives in the Classroom. Renaissance Middle School's 7th grade science teacher, Tim Purnell, was an enthusiastic and creative member of the Advisory Board. In addition, Mr. Purnell made time to pilot-test more than 15 investigations in his four classes and led a Detectives in the Classroom Professional Development Workshop at the New Jersey Education Association annual meeting. Charles Cobb, principal of the Renaissance Middle School, supported Mr. Purnell's pilot-testing of the curriculum in spite of pressure to prepare students for standardized testing.
